Main emphasis on experiencing nature

Information and education are given major emphasis in the Dutch National Parks. This includes information given to (primary) schools in the region, which is why most of the National Parks have special fieldwork programmes for schools that challenge the pupils to experience nature.

The underlying philosophy is that real involvement in nature, environment and landscape only comes when you put your hands in the soil, your wellingtons in the water and let the wind blow through your hair... In brief: knowledge has its roots in experience. A fieldwork programme for primary school children is offered by the Lauwersmeer National Park. But this is only in Dutch and is limited to the local schools around the National Park.
